I love apple desserts. Whether a tart, a dumpling a pie, or something in between, SIGN ME UP. To take a break from the main dishes, I decided to try my hand at a different recipe for an apple cake than I’ve made previously. This recipe hails from a blog from someone who embarked on a similar cooking journey a decade ago and she claims the recipe came from a reader’s grandmother. It’s simple and incredibly good. While this could work for dessert, I think it pairs best as a breakfast treat paired with a cup of tea.

Overall Level of Effort: 1
Skill Level: Beginner
Would Make It Again? Yes
Additional Notes: While it doesn’t indicate in the recipe, I used a 9-inch spring form pan and it turned out beautifully. I also elected to add cut up apples to the batter (one of the author’s suggestions) which did increase the baking time ever so slightly.
